Power Points & Additional Circuits MELBOURNE

Your local experts in Power Points & Additional Circuits

Running out of power points is one of the most common problems in Melbourne homes — and relying on double adaptors and extension cords as a permanent solution is both inconvenient and a genuine safety risk. Whether you need a single extra outlet in a bedroom, a full kitchen power point layout before a renovation, or dedicated circuits for high-draw appliances, we’ll sort it out.

We carry out power point installations and additional circuit work for homes right across Melbourne — from single outlet additions to complete circuit upgrades. Licensed, fast, and done properly. Based in Melbourne’s Western suburbs, servicing all of Melbourne.

Adding a power point, do you need a new circuit?

Not always — but sometimes. When we add a power point to an existing circuit, we assess whether that circuit has the capacity to safely handle additional load before any work begins. In most cases, adding one or two power points to an existing circuit in a modern Melbourne home is straightforward.

A new dedicated circuit is required when: the existing circuit is already near its rated capacity; the new power point is for a high-draw appliance such as an induction cooktop, air conditioning unit, EV charger, or pool pump; the location of the new outlet is far from the existing circuit and running a new circuit is more practical than extending the old one; or your switchboard is already at capacity and needs upgrading to accommodate additional circuits.

We assess your switchboard and existing circuits as part of every power point quote — so you know whether a new circuit is required before any work begins. If a switchboard upgrade is needed, we include it in the scope and price as a single combined quote.

Power point installation across Melbourne.

We install power points and additional circuits right across Melbourne. We’re based in the Western suburbs, Point Cook, Tarneit, Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, and Wyndham Vale are our primary patch, where we often have same-day or next-day availability for power point jobs. For homes elsewhere in Melbourne, lead times are typically 2–5 business days. Call 03 4250 9530 and we’ll confirm our earliest available time for your suburb.

Why replacing extension cords with proper power points is worth it:

  • Safety — overloaded double adaptors and daisy-chained extension cords are a leading cause of residential electrical fires; a properly installed power point eliminates the risk.
  • Convenience — no more reaching behind furniture for an extension cord; outlets where you actually need them.
  • Cleaner appearance — flush-mounted power points replace the tangle of adaptors and cords that accumulate behind entertainment units, desks, and kitchen benches.
  • Appliance performance — dedicated circuits for high-draw appliances (induction cooktops, air conditioning, EV chargers) prevent nuisance trips and protect equipment.
  • Property value — well-placed, modern power points are noticed by buyers and renters; an adequate outlet count is a basic expectation in a modern Melbourne home.

Aymen was a life saver. He turned up on a Saturday and spent around 4 hours on site installing our Tesla wall charger. It was a harder install than expected and he and his apprentice nailed it. Very happy with their work and would recommend them to all.

Power Points & Additional Circuits FAQ

Your Power Points & Additional Circuits questions answered.

    • Can I install a power point myself in Victoria?

No. Installing a power point — including connecting it to an existing circuit — is classified as electrical installation work in Victoria and must be carried out by a licensed electrician. Self-installation is illegal, unsafe, and voids your home insurance. The only electrical work a homeowner can legally carry out in Victoria is replacing like-for-like light globes and certain pre-wired appliances. For everything else, call a licensed electrician.

    • Is it safe to use double adaptors and extension cords instead of adding a power point?

Double adaptors and extension cords are designed for temporary use, not as permanent solutions. Overloading a double adaptor or daisy-chaining extension cords generates heat and is a leading cause of residential electrical fires in Australia. If you’re relying on extension cords as a permanent arrangement in any room, the right solution is additional power points on a properly assessed circuit.

    • Do I need a new circuit to add a power point?

Not always, it depends on whether the existing circuit has the capacity to safely handle additional load. We assess your existing circuit before adding any outlets. A new dedicated circuit is required when adding high-draw appliances (induction cooktops, EV chargers, air conditioning), when the existing circuit is near capacity, or when the new outlet location makes extending the existing circuit impractical.

    • How long does power point installation take?

Most single or double power point additions are completed within an hour or two on a single visit. Larger power point projects, a full kitchen outlet layout or multiple rooms, may take half a day. Dedicated circuit installations from the switchboard add time depending on the distance. We confirm the expected timeframe when we provide your quote.

    • Can you install USB power points?

Yes. We install USB-A and USB-C integrated power points, available in single, double, and combination USB/GPO configurations. USB power points allow you to charge phones, tablets, and other USB-C devices directly without a separate charger adaptor. They’re particularly popular in bedrooms, home offices, and kitchens.

    • Can you install power points outdoors?

Yes. We install IP-rated weatherproof power points for outdoor entertaining areas, garages, garden sheds, carports, and external walls. All outdoor power points must comply with the IP rating and location requirements of AS/NZS 3000. We advise on the correct specification for your outdoor area before installation.

    • Can you install a circuit now to prepare for a future EV charger?

Yes, and this is an increasingly popular approach. We install a dedicated 32A circuit from the switchboard to the garage or carport, with a capped conduit end ready for the EV charger hardware when you’re ready. This is significantly cheaper than running the circuit after flooring, landscaping, or concreting is in place. The circuit is tested and certified at installation.

    • Do I receive documentation after power point installation?

Yes. A Certificate of Electrical Safety is issued on completion of every power point installation, a legal requirement in Victoria confirming the work was carried out by a Registered Electrical Contractor to AS/NZS 3000. We issue this automatically. Every installation is also covered by our lifetime warranty on workmanship.
