24/7 Emergency Electrician FAQ
Your 24/7 Emergency Electrician questions answered.
Are you available right now for a home electrical emergency?
Yes. Call 03 4250 9530 — we’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for residential electrical emergencies across Melbourne. When you call, you speak directly to a licensed member of our team.
How quickly can you get to my home?
Response time depends on your location and current availability. We confirm your estimated arrival time when you call. For homes in Melbourne’s Western suburbs — Point Cook, Tarneit, Werribee, Hoppers Crossing — we typically offer the fastest response. For other Melbourne suburbs, we advise our ETA when you make contact.
My safety switch keeps tripping, is this an emergency?
It depends. If the safety switch trips and resets successfully after you’ve unplugged equipment on the affected circuit, it may be safe to wait until business hours. If the safety switch won’t reset, trips immediately even with nothing plugged in, or keeps tripping multiple times, call us now — this indicates an active fault that could be dangerous.
I can smell burning near a power point. What should I do?
Stop using the power point immediately. If safe to do so, turn off that circuit at the switchboard. Evacuate the area around the power point and call us now on 03 4250 9530. A burning electrical smell indicates a fault that has already caused heat damage and is a fire risk.
The whole house has no power. What should I check before calling?
Check your switchboard, look for a breaker that has tripped to the off position. If you find one, you can try resetting it once. Also check whether your neighbours have power — if they don’t, the fault may be with the network distributor (United Energy or Powercor) and not your home. If your neighbours have power and resetting hasn’t helped, call us.
What should I do while I wait for you to arrive?
Keep your household away from the affected area. Don’t touch any exposed wiring, scorch-marked outlets, or wet electrical fittings. If there is a burning smell, evacuate the immediate area. Don’t use candles in place of lighting. If the fault is in the switchboard, leave the panel closed. Call us back if the situation changes or gets worse.
Can you fix the problem on the same visit?
In most cases, yes. We carry common residential fault components and can diagnose and resolve the majority of home electrical faults on the first visit. Where the fault requires parts not in stock, we make your home safe and schedule the repair as a priority. We never leave your home in an unsafe condition.
