Do I need a licensed electrician to install a split system in Victoria?
Yes. The electrical installation component of a split system — including the dedicated circuit, isolator, and connection of the indoor and outdoor units — must be carried out by a licensed electrician in Victoria. This is classified as electrical installation work under the Electricity Safety Act 1998 (Vic). The refrigerant component must be carried out by an ARCtick-licensed refrigeration mechanic. Both are legal requirements.
Can I install a split system myself?
No. Self-installation of a split system electrical circuit is illegal in Victoria, voids your manufacturer warranty, and is not covered by your home insurance. The refrigerant handling is also a licensed trade. Unlicensed installation can also result in fines under the Electricity Safety Act 1998 (Vic). A licensed electrician and a licensed refrigeration mechanic are both required.
What brands of split system do you install?
We install the electrical scope for all major split system brands sold in Australia — Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Samsung, LG, Kelvinator, and all other standard single-phase residential units. If your unit is a standard split system, we can install it.
Can you install a multi-head split system?
Yes. A multi-head split system — one outdoor unit connected to multiple indoor units — requires multiple dedicated circuits or a single appropriately-rated circuit depending on the system configuration. We assess the electrical requirements for multi-head systems before quoting and carry out the full electrical scope for all indoor and outdoor unit connections.
How long does the electrical installation take?
The electrical scope for a single split system installation typically takes 2 to 4 hours. This includes the circuit run from the switchboard, the isolator installation, and the connection of both units. Multi-head systems or installations requiring a long cable run from the switchboard will take longer. We confirm the expected timeframe when we provide your quote.
