Smart Home & Home Automation MELBOURNE
Your local experts in Smart Home & Home Automation
Smart home technology has crossed the line from novelty to expectation. Voice-controlled lighting, automated scenes, phone-controlled switches, and energy monitoring are now standard features in new Melbourne homes — and straightforward retrofits in existing ones. The right licensed electrician makes the difference between a smart home that works seamlessly every day and a collection of gadgets that frustrate more than they help.
We carry out smart home and home automation installations for Melbourne homes — smart switches, smart dimmers, lighting control systems, smart power points, and whole-home automation wiring. Compatible with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit. Based in Melbourne’s Western suburbs, servicing all of Melbourne.
Smart home platforms we work with, Google Home, Alexa, and Apple HomeKit.
The smart home devices we install are compatible with all three major smart home platforms in Australia. Before installation, we discuss which platform you’re building around — or advise on the right choice if you’re starting from scratch — so every device we install works within your preferred ecosystem.
Platform |
Compatibility notes |
| Google Home | Compatible with the widest range of smart switches, dimmers, thermostats, and power points available in Australia. Works via Wi-Fi and Z-Wave. Voice control and app automation supported. |
| Amazon Alexa | Compatible with all major smart switch and dimmer brands. Works via Wi-Fi and Zigbee. Extensive device ecosystem with strong app-based automation and voice control. |
| Apple HomeKit | Supported by a growing range of Australian-market smart switches and sensors. Requires HomeKit-certified devices. Offers the strongest privacy protections of the three major platforms. |
| Samsung SmartThings | Multi-protocol hub (Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Matter) supporting a wide device range. Good choice for whole-home automation with mixed-brand devices. |
| Matter (universal standard) | The emerging cross-platform standard — Matter-certified devices work across Google Home, Alexa, and HomeKit simultaneously. We advise on Matter-compatible devices for new installations where appropriate. |
What’s included in a Rincon Electrical smart home installation.
Every smart home installation starts with a conversation about your goals — which rooms, which devices, which platform, and how you want to control everything day to day. We advise on device selection and platform compatibility before any hardware is purchased or installed, so the result works the way you envisioned it.
Installation covers removal of existing switches and power points where required, in-wall wiring assessment and any neutral wire provision needed for smart switch compatibility, installation of smart devices in the correct configuration for single-pole, double-pole, or multi-way switching, platform configuration and initial device pairing to your app, a walkthrough of the system before we leave, and a Certificate of Electrical Safety on completion. We don’t install devices and leave — we make sure everything works.

What a properly installed smart home actually delivers:
- Convenience — control lighting, fans, and appliances from your phone or by voice from anywhere in the home or remotely.
- Energy savings — smart switches and dimmers with occupancy sensors and schedules reduce energy waste from lights and appliances left on unnecessarily.
- Automated scenes — single-button or voice-activated scenes (Arrive Home, Movie Mode, Goodnight) that adjust multiple devices simultaneously.
- Remote access — check whether you left lights on, turn off appliances, or let someone into your home from anywhere in the world.
- Accessibility — voice and app control makes lighting and appliance management easier for household members with limited mobility.

Smart Home & Home Automation FAQ
Your Smart Home & Home Automation questions answered.
Do I need a licensed electrician to install smart switches?
Yes. Installing a smart switch involves connecting to your home’s electrical circuit — this is classified as electrical installation work under the Electricity Safety Act 1998 (Vic) and must be carried out by a licensed electrician. This applies to in-wall smart switches, smart dimmers, and smart power points. Plug-in smart devices (such as smart plugs that insert into an existing GPO) don’t require an electrician, but any in-wall device does.
Which smart home platform should I choose — Google Home, Alexa, or Apple HomeKit?
It depends on what devices you already use and which ecosystem fits your household best. Google Home is the most widely compatible with Australian-market devices and works best if you already use Android phones or Google Nest speakers. Apple HomeKit offers the strongest privacy but requires HomeKit-certified devices, which limits your choice. Alexa has the largest global device ecosystem. If you’re starting from scratch, we advise on the right platform for your household before any hardware is purchased.
Can smart switches work without the internet?
Most smart switches require an internet connection for remote access, voice control, and automated schedules. However, local control — turning the switch on or off from the physical switch or within your home network — typically works without internet. Some platforms (particularly Apple HomeKit with local processing) have stronger offline capabilities. We advise on the right devices for your reliability requirements.
Can you install smart home devices in my existing home, or only in new builds?
Both. Smart switches, dimmers, and power points can be retrofitted into existing homes in most cases, provided the existing wiring has a neutral wire at switch locations or we can provision one. New builds are the easiest to set up with full smart home pre-wiring, but a well-planned retrofit in an existing Melbourne home can achieve the same result. We assess your existing wiring before quoting.
What smart home devices can you install?
We install smart light switches, smart dimmers, smart power points, smart thermostats (Google Nest, Ecobee), hardwired smart doorbells (Ring, Nest, Eufy), smart ceiling fans, motorised blind wiring, and low-voltage smart home pre-wiring for new builds. We advise on device selection for compatibility with your chosen platform before installation.
Will smart switches work with my existing LED downlights?
Usually yes — but compatibility between smart dimmers and LED downlights requires checking. Not all LED fittings are dimmable, and not all dimmable LEDs are compatible with every smart dimmer model. We assess your existing LED fittings and recommend a compatible smart dimmer before installation. Where existing fittings are not dimmable, we can advise on LED replacement options.
Can you set up my smart home system and teach me how to use it?
Yes. We configure all devices to your chosen platform, set up the app on your phone, create initial scenes and schedules as requested, and walk you through how everything works before we leave. We don’t install and disappear — we make sure you can use the system confidently before the job is done.
