EV Charger Installation MELBOURNE
Your local experts in EV Charger Installation
Plugging your electric vehicle into a standard household power point works — but it’s slow, inefficient, and not designed for daily use. A Level 2 home EV charger installed by a licensed electrician gives you faster overnight charging, a dedicated circuit built for the load, and the peace of mind that your setup is certified and safe.
We’re licensed EV charger installers based in Melbourne’s Western suburbs. We carry out home EV charger installations right across Melbourne — from new estates in Point Cook, Tarneit, and Wyndham Vale to established homes across the city. Switchboard assessment included. Fixed pricing. Certificate of Electrical Safety on completion.
Why a home EV charger is the smartest upgrade you’ll make.
Most EV owners charge at home more than 80% of the time. A standard 10A power point delivers roughly 10–15km of range per hour — meaning a full charge on a typical EV can take 24 hours or longer. A Level 2 home charger delivers 7kW or more, cutting that to 6–10 hours and making overnight charging the effortless, reliable daily routine it should be.
Beyond speed, a dedicated home charging circuit is safer, more energy-efficient, and better for your vehicle’s battery long-term compared to drawing sustained high current through a standard outlet. And with off-peak electricity rates available through most Victorian energy providers, charging at home overnight is significantly cheaper than public charging.
What’s included in a Rincon Electrical EV charger installation
Every EV charger installation we carry out starts with a switchboard assessment — we check whether your existing board has the capacity to support a dedicated 32A circuit before any hardware is committed to. If a switchboard upgrade is required, we include it in the scope and provide a combined quote.
Installation includes the dedicated 32A circuit from your switchboard to the charger location, all conduit and cabling run neatly through the wall or ceiling, mounting of the charging unit in the optimal position for your vehicle access, and full testing of the charging circuit before we leave. We issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety on completion and can provide documentation for any Victorian government rebate application.
EV charger installation for all major brands sold in Australia.
We install home EV charging stations for every major electric vehicle brand currently sold in Australia. Whether you drive a Tesla, BYD, Hyundai IONIQ, Kia EV6, MG, Polestar, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes-Benz EQ, Nissan, or any other AC-compatible EV — we’ll install the right home charger for your vehicle and property.
We work with all major charger hardware brands and can advise on the best option for your EV, your garage layout, and your energy setup — including compatibility with existing solar systems and smart home platforms.
Why a home EV charger is the smartest upgrade:
- Faster charging — 40–50km range/hr vs 10–15km from a standard outlet
- Lower running costs — off-peak home charging cheaper than public charging or petrol
- Better for your battery — a dedicated 32A circuit is designed for the load; a standard power point isn't
- Property value — increasingly listed as a selling feature by Western Melbourne real estate agents
- Solar compatibility — charge on free solar energy during daylight hours

EV Charger Installation FAQ
Your EV Charger Installation questions answered.
How much does EV charger installation cost in Melbourne?
For a straightforward installation on an existing switchboard, home EV charger installation in Melbourne typically starts from $900 to $1,500. If a switchboard upgrade is also required, the combined cost will be higher and is quoted as a single fixed price. We always provide a free assessment and upfront quote before any work begins — call 03 4250 9530.
How long does EV charger installation take?
A standard home EV charger installation — where the switchboard has sufficient capacity and the charger is being mounted in a garage or carport — typically takes 3 to 5 hours and is completed in a single visit. If a switchboard upgrade is also required, the full job may take a full day. We confirm the expected timeframe when we provide your quote.
Do I need a switchboard upgrade before installing an EV charger?
Possibly, it depends on your existing switchboard. A Level 2 EV charger requires a dedicated 32A circuit, and many older Melbourne switchboards don’t have the spare capacity to support this without an upgrade. We always assess your switchboard as part of the EV charger quote. If an upgrade is needed, we include it in the scope and price as a single combined quote.
Can I just plug my EV into a standard power point at home?
Yes, but it’s slow, inefficient, and not recommended for daily use. A standard 10A outlet delivers roughly 10–15km of range per hour, meaning a full charge can take 24 hours or longer. A Level 2 home charger delivers 40–50km of range per hour, making overnight charging fast, reliable, and much safer for extended daily use.
What is a Level 2 EV charger?
A Level 2 EV charger is a 7kW or 11kW AC charging unit — the most practical home charging option for Australian EV owners. It charges significantly faster than a standard power point, is designed for daily use, and requires a dedicated 32A circuit installed by a licensed electrician. Most new EVs sold in Australia are compatible with Level 2 AC charging.
Are there government rebates for home EV charger installation in Victoria?
Yes, Victorian government rebate programs have been available for home EV charger installation under the state’s Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) incentive programs. Rebate availability and eligibility criteria change regularly. Call us on 03 4250 9530 and we’ll advise on the current status of any applicable programs when you book your installation.
Can you install an EV charger if I also have solar panels?
Yes, and the combination of home solar and a Level 2 EV charger is one of the most cost-effective setups available. We assess your switchboard and solar inverter setup to ensure the EV charger circuit is correctly integrated and doesn’t create any compatibility or load issues. We can also advise on smart charging options that let you prioritise solar energy for charging during daylight hours.
What brands of EV charger do you install?
We install home EV charging stations for all major EV brands sold in Australia, including Tesla, BYD, Hyundai IONIQ, Kia EV6, MG, Polestar, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes-Benz EQ, and more. We can advise on the right charger hardware for your specific vehicle and property. Contact us and we’ll guide you through the options.
Is it legal to install an EV charger yourself in Victoria?
No. Installing a Level 2 EV charger, which requires a dedicated 32A circuit and connection to your switchboard — is classified as electrical installation work in Victoria and must be carried out by a licensed electrician. Self-installation is illegal, voids your charger warranty, and is not covered by home insurance. Rincon Electrical is a Registered Electrical Contractor in Victoria.
